"*** System restart required ***" message when I logged into my AWS EC2 Ubuntu Instance

When I logged into my AWS EC2 instance running Ubuntu 20.04 TLS with ssh (putty), I saw a message indicating that a system restart is required. Wondering why is it required and is there any risk in restarting my server? I am hosting a web application on my server.

Yes, if the downtime caused by a retart is manageable for you, you should restart. Typically, restarts are required if there are updates for Linux Kernel or other important security updates.

In production environment, it is important to have all security updates in place. Restart will not normally cause any issue with the server. But make sure that you gracefully stop/shutdown the applications running in the server and then restart to avoid any data corruption.
